Board of Trustees Annual Meeting

The Board of Trustees will hold its regular monthly board meeting at 10:15am on Saturday, March 18, 2017 in the library’s Community Room.

At approximately 11:15am the Annual Meeting will be held. New Board members and a slate of officers will be offered and voted on. Other business will include passage of the 2017 budget and reports by Library Director Emily Chameides and Board President David Murphy.

Everyone is invited to attend both meetings. Light refreshments will follow the meeting.

Annual Meeting of the Hudson Area Library

The Board of Trustees will hold its regular monthly board meeting at 10:15am on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the future home of the Hudson Area Library, 51 N. 5th Street.

At approximately 11:15am the Annual Meeting will be held. New Board members and a slate of officers will be offered and voted on. Other business will include passage of the 2016 budget and reports by Library Director Emily Chameides and Board President Mark Orton.

Friends Annual Meeting with Guest Speaker, James Campion

CampionThe Friends of the Hudson Area Library announces its 16th Annual Meeting to be held on Thursday, April 16 at 6pm at the Library.

This year’s guest speaker will be James Campion, President of Columbia Greene Community College. Mr. Campion, drawing on his extensive experience with community based not-for-profits, will provide insight on the many pitfalls and opportunities that such organizations encounter as they evolve.

Mr. Campion has served as President of CGCC since 2000. Prior to his appointment he served as the College’s Dean of Community Services and Executive Director of the Columbia-Greene Community Foundation. During his 43 year career in higher education, he has held several other administrative and adjunct faculty positions in community colleges.

At approximately 6pm the Annual Meeting will be held. New Board members and a slate of officers will be offered and voted on. Other business will include passage of the 2015 budget and reports by Library Director Emily Chameides and Board President Mark Orton.

Friends of the Hudson Area Library Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 24th

The Friends of the Hudson Area Library announces its 15th Annual Meeting to be held on Thursday, April 24th at 6pm at the Library.  This year’s guest speaker will be Rebekkah Smith-Aldrich of the Mid-Hudson Library System.  The title of her presentation will be “Throw Out the Map: Sustainable Thinking for the Future of Libraries.”

Ms. Smith-Aldrich is the Coordinator for Library Sustainability for the Mid- Hudson Library System in New York. She has assisted the 66 member libraries in the areas of governance, management, funding and facilities. Her specialty is helping libraries create sustainable solutions for their facilities, funding and leadership. She is also the author of the Handbook of New Public Library Directors in New York State. Friends of the Hudson Area Library Annual Meeting Coming Soon

The Friends of the Hudson Area Library announces its Annual Meeting to be held on Thursday, April 18th at 6:00pm at the Library. The Friends are privileged to have Lisa Dolan as guest speaker that evening. She will be discussing children’s literacy and creating a culture of literacy in the community.

Lisa is the founder of Hudson Reads, a reading mentorship program in the Hudson City School District, as well as Literacy Coach for over three decades. She co-founded and co-directs the Hudson Children’s Book Festival, the largest book festival in New York State.  Lisa is also an educational consultant for New York State, serves as a board member of Investments in Youth and writes a weekly book review for the Register Star.

Friends Annual Meeting with Guest Speakers – John Weinman and Wendy McDaris

The Friends of the Hudson Area Library announces their annual meeting which will be held on Thursday, April 19th at 6:00pm at the Library. This year there will be two guest speakers discussing the history of Hudson and its buildings.

John Weinman, former editor of the Register Star and one of the original organizers of SPOUT in Hudson (Society to Protect Our Unique Town), who has been involved in many civic and community organizations in Hudson and Columbia County, will be discussing two very relevant historic buildings, the Armory and the Register Star Building, both of which are possibilities for the Library’s future home.

Wendy McDaris, consultant, curator and designer, will be discussing the Library’s History Room collection. Antique postcards, portraying some of Hudson’s finest architectural gems, as well as other history related items will be during her discussion. She will also speak about the various collections and the many resources available to the public, as well as how to research and access them. Wendy was instrumental in renovating the Library’s History Room and securing grant monies to conserve the collection of historical artifacts.

The Friends of the Hudson Area Library was established in 1999 to assist the Hudson Area Library, which serves the communities of Hudson and Greenport. The Friends raise funds throughout the year to provide much needed programs and to grow the Library’s collection in all media types.
