This month, the Parents Book Club will be meeting on Saturday, October 19th from 10am-12pm, instead of on their customary fourth Saturday of the month. They will be discussing Nurtureshock: New Thinking About Children by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman. Babies and young children are welcome, and children who can use the bathroom independently are welcome to join Ms. Janice in the Children’s Room for stories, crafts, music, movement, and free play. This reading group is co-sponsored and facilitated by Linda of Green Momma Bear.
Starting this September, Hudson Area Library will host a brand new set of children’s programs for kids of all ages called The Kids First Initiative. The Initiative aims to help foster positive outcomes and support academic achievement for the children of our community through new educational programming. Here are the new programs which will be added to the regular children’s schedule:
Tuesday: Kids Fun Night
3:30-7:30pm- Weekly- All Ages
Join us for an evening of all-ages activities, including Twister challenge, music, poetry, puzzles, games, as well as jewelry, collage, and bookmark making.
Wednesday: Learn to Read Program
3:30-4:30pm- Weekly- Ages 3-6
This early literacy program aims to foster a love of reading in the youngest members of our community. Through age appropriate activities, children will practice the alphabet, learn sight words, and read stories. Parents are welcome to participate.
Thursday: Kids Lego Club
3:00-4:30pm- Weekly- All ages
The Kids Lego Club is open to children ages 2-14 who are ready to put their imagination and building skills to work in a fun and creative atmosphere. Children can work on their own creations or in teams. Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver aged 13 or older. The library will provide Legos and Duplo bricks for use in the club.
Friday: Time to Dance!
September 13- 3:30-5:00pm- All ages
Through music, dance, and collaborative online research, kids will learn about a new type of music at each session while being physically active and having fun! Our first session will cover salsa music. NOTE: This program will continue each 2nd Friday of the month.
Friday: Kids Career Workshops
September 27- 3:30-5:00pm- All ages
Join us in exploring a different career at each session. Our first session will be about becoming a teacher. NOTE: This program will continue each 4th Friday of the month.
Saturday: Drop-In Children’s Activities
12:00-3:00pm- Weekly- All ages
Children of all ages are welcome to stop by and join us in crafts, stories and other fun activities in the Children’s Room.

Look for the Friends under the tent at the Hudson Riverfront Saturday, July 20 from 11am-4pm with lots of fabulous vintage books, craft books and books to craft with. Plus ideas on how to make your own crafts, using old books, dust jackets and the written word. This is the first juried show whose artists are drawing on the mercantile history of the Hudson River and will showcase contemporary local craft, art, design and vintage wares. Saturday, May 4th marks the day of the 5th annual Hudson Children’s Book Festival, the biggest gathering of children’s and young adult book authors and illustrators you’ve ever seen! The Festival will take place at the Hudson Junior and Senior High Schools, located at 215 Harry Howard Avenue in Hudson from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free! Hudson Area Library will have a table at the Festival, so be sure to stop by and say hi!

The Hudson Area Library is celebrating Dr. Seuss’s 109th birthday with stories, crafts, games, movies, and more! Join us for a special Dr. Seuss Birthday story time on Saturday, March 2, from 11am-12pm or come by anytime that day between 10am and 3pm to get a Dr. Seuss sticker and coloring sheets!
Save the Date! The fifth annual Hudson Children’s Book Festival will be held at the Hudson Junior and Senior High School (215 Harry Howard Avenue in Hudson, New York) on May 4th from 10:00am – 4:00pm. This is the largest book festival in New York State. There will be children’s and young adult authors and illustrators, hundreds of books to browse, author and illustrator presentations, arts & crafts, workshops & live music performances. The Keep On Reading! Kids Book Sale will be held for two days, Friday February 22nd and Saturday, February 23rd at the Hudson Area Library. This special sale takes place from 1-4pm on Friday and from 10am-2pm on Saturday and is sponsored by the Friends of the Hudson Area Library. All proceeds from this sale will be used for the purchase of new books and other media for the Library’s ever-expanding collection.
In conjunction with the Kids Book Sale, the Library is featuring a special program on both Friday and Saturday for children to learn about the rainforest. On Friday, meet Ms. Frizzle from The Magic School Bus with story time and arts and crafts activities in the children’s room with Ms. Marlene. On Saturday, there will be more story time and rainforest craft projects for kids of all ages with Ms. Marlene and Ms. Janice. All ages are welcome. Join us Friday from 1-4pm and Saturday from 10am-2pm in the Children’s Room for rainforest fun!
The Book Sale Room is open every Saturday and offers books for all ages and reading levels–infants to adults. All proceeds from the Book Sale Room support the Hudson Area Library.
