In April, we celebrate National Poetry Month & Earth Day on April 22. Throughout the month, the Children’s Room will host activities that celebrate our amazing Earth, including recycled art, seed planting, & an educational nature program. In honor of National Poetry Month, we will have a special workshop with poetry & songs in Spanish & a program where we invite kids to draw pictures of what comes to their imaginations while listening to poems. The Friends of the Hudson Area Library will wrap up the month with a Kids Poetry Reciting Contest. During the Hudson City School District’s Spring Break, the Children’s Room will have extra staff hours: Tues., April 15 (12-8PM), Wed. April 16 (10AM-8PM), Thurs., April 17 & Fri., April 18 (10AM-5PM). The Children’s Room special events calendar is listed below. Earth Day is coming and the Kids’ First Initiative needs your help! An Earth Day seed planting event is in the making and the Children’s Room is in need of gardening supplies. Donations needed include potting soil, plastic containers, trowels/small shovels, and seeds for easy-to-grow vegetables and herbs that are appropriate for early season planting. Donations may be brought to the staff office during normal business hours, or to Jaclyn in the Children’s Room from 3-8pm on Tuesdays and 3-5pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Stay tuned for upcoming details about this fun event, and thank you in advance for your generous donations!
