Book Sale Room to Reopen!

The Friends Book Sale Room will once again be open every Saturday in January, beginning on January 2nd from 10-1pm.

Thousands of titles in over 50 categories will be offered, including hardcover, paperback and oversize editions, in order to make room for new books. The shelves are stocked with great titles, so bring a fellow book-lover to browse the area’s largest and most comprehensive selection of gently used books at truly bargain prices. We’ll look forward to seeing you there!

New: Cook Books at Dish Hudson

Now you can shop at three local stores in Hudson and Catskill for great books! Dish, Hudson is the third retail outlet for Friends books, in addition to SKETCH Art Supply (wonderful art books at 701 Warren Street) and Magpie Books, Catskill (original book art at 392 Main Street).

Dish now has a curated selection of vintage and collectable titles on sale at 103 Warren Street, where you’ll find the perfect title for the host/hostess, the foodie that loves cook books, or the chef on your list. No two books are alike, so you have to stop in to see what’s on the shelf! And of course, all proceeds benefit the Friends to continue its mission of new books, DVDs, magazines and other media, as well as valuable programs throughout the year!

Friends Welcome Children’s Author, Barbara Mojica and Illustrator Victor Ramon Mojica to Winter Walk

The Friends of the Hudson Area Library is pleased to announce award-winning children’s author, Barbara Mojica and illustrator, Victor Ramon Mojica at 217 Warren Street for Winter Walk on Saturday, December 5th from 5-8pm.

The Little Miss History (Travels to…) series of six books will all be available for purchase, including the brand new Little Miss History Travels to Ellis Island, making its debut at Winter Walk 2015. Other books in the series include Little Miss History Travels to: The Statue of Liberty, Fords Theater, The Intrepid, Sequoia National Park, and Mount Rushmore.

iPad Basics and Computer Class for Beginners – Sign Up Today!

We have two adult computer classes scheduled for November. The first class will focus on iPad basics and the second class will cover computer file organization for beginners.

iPad Basics
Saturday, November 7, 10am-11:30am
Learn the functions of various icons, how to add an app to an iPad, how to change the iPad settings, how to copy/paste/print, and how to access the Internet. All participants must bring their own iPad to the class.

Beginners – Basic Computer File Organization
Friday, November 13, 12:30-2pm
Learn where files can be stored for easy access, how to find programs and documents, and how to bookmark a page and save a page as a Favorite for future review.

National Friends of Libraries Week: Oct. 18-24

The Friends of the Hudson Area Library is proud to announce the launch of their new logo in tandem with the 16th Annual National Friends of Libraries week, October 18-24, 2015.

As the Hudson Area Library prepares to move into the new location, the Friends are conducting their annual membership appeal during the month of October in order to continue their service and support of the library and community. The campaign, “Let’s Be Friends” invites all members of the community to join and get involved. Membership and donations to the Friends of the Hudson Area Library will help us continue to provide books and supplies in addition to programming and events to enhance library services for Hudson and our greater community.

Adult Computer Classes Announced!

computer classWe have three adult computer classes scheduled for the fall. The first class will focus on using Microsoft Word to create a resume, the second class will focus on iPad basics and the third class will cover computer file organization for beginners.

Microsoft Word – Resume and Career Focus
Friday, October 30, 12:30-2pm 
This course will focus primarily on the creation of a cover letter and resume. All participants should bring their most recent resume and/or job history (with dates/locations). A flash/thumb drive is also suggested, but not required. You’ll learn how to set up a resume, how to select and use Microsoft Word templates and how to format the document to meet your needs.

iPad Basics
Saturday, November 7, 10am-11:30am
