Area children ushered in the Year of the Rabbit with a Chinese New Year celebration Wednesday, February 9th at the library. Led by Elena Mosley with assistance from youth of Kuumba Dance and Drum, the children made Chinese paper lantern crafts while listening to traditional Chinese music, learned interesting facts about China and Chinese culture, shared Grace Lin’s picture book “Round is a Mooncake”, and danced in the style of Chinese ribbon dancing with some crafty streamers. “Round is a Mooncake” is available through the Mid-Hudson Library System.
This celebration was part of the Cultural Stories and Dance program presented by the Kuumba Dance and Drum in collaboration with the Hudson Area Library. The Cultural Stories and Dance program is supported by Operation Unite and the Columbia County Council on the Arts through the New York State Decentralization Grant. In April, the program’s focus will be Bengali Heritage.
