In April, we celebrate National Poetry Month & Earth Day on April 22. Throughout the month, the Children’s Room will host activities that celebrate our amazing Earth, including recycled art, seed planting, & an educational nature program. In honor of National Poetry Month, we will have a special workshop with poetry & songs in Spanish & a program where we invite kids to draw pictures of what comes to their imaginations while listening to poems. The Friends of the Hudson Area Library will wrap up the month with a Kids Poetry Reciting Contest. During the Hudson City School District’s Spring Break, the Children’s Room will have extra staff hours: Tues., April 15 (12-8PM), Wed. April 16 (10AM-8PM), Thurs., April 17 & Fri., April 18 (10AM-5PM). The Children’s Room special events calendar is listed below. First Friday Mosaic of Hudson: Friday, April 4th from 3-5pm, All ages
In celebration of Passover, join us to learn about & celebrate Jewish culture with storytelling, games, & traditional customs.
Frogs & Pollywogs: Thursday, April 10th from 10am-11am, All ages
Hop into spring & learn about frogs & pollywogs with Mud Creek Environmental Center educator Chelsea Benson.
Mommy & Me / Daddy & Me Story Time Saturday, April 12th and 19th from 11am-12pm, Ages 1.5-3 years 
Enjoy great stories, songs & rhymes, finger plays, & movement activities designed for toddlers & their caregivers.
Poetry & Songs en Espanol: Tuesday, April 15th from 12pm-2pm, All ages
Will Pflaum, of Hudson’s new homeschool group HATCH, will translate an old Spanish poem that has never before been translated into English. Pflaum, who will instruct this program entirely in Spanish, will also teach kids a song from Argentina & have his guitar & drums on hand for some musical fun!
What Can You Make With an Egg Carton?: Wednesday, April 16th from 12-5pm, All ages
A critter garden. A flower wreath. Tulips, goggles, fish, ships, owls, & turtles! Use recycled cardboard egg cartons to make any of these ideas, or come up with your own!
Make Your Garden Grow!: Thursday, April 17th from 12-5pm, All ages
The Kids First Initiative, the Hudson Community Garden, & the HCSD Enrichment Initiative have collaborated for this exciting program. We will plant basil, parsley, lavender, mint, calendula, marigold, lemon balm & kale seeds using paper towel tubes & organic soil. Information will be provided on how to care for your plants at home & ideas for using your herbs, flowers, & veggies in recipes & teas.
Hear a Poem, Draw a Picture!: Friday, April 18th from 12pm-3pm, All ages
During this program, kids will listen to poems & use their imaginations to draw pictures of what’s happening in the poems.
Earth Day Recycled Art: Tuesday, April 22nd from 3-7pm, All ages
Join us to read stories about nature, make collages of all the things we love about Earth using recycled magazines, & create your own unique paintings of Earth to bring home.
Friends of the Hudson Area Library Kids Poetry Reciting Contest, Saturday, April 26th from 1pm-2pm, Ages 6-12 years
Kids will recite their favorite poems from memory & be judged on presence, clarity, drama, & accuracy. There will be prizes for the winner & runner up. For more information, please stop by the library.
Baby & Me Story Time: Wednesday, April 30th from 5-6pm,  Ages 0-18 months
We will share books for babies, learn fun songs & rhymes, & meet other families in this interactive & fun family program.
