Program Description: The Pillow Project comes to the library! All children attending this program leave with a pillow they create themselves (no sewing, just cutting fabric strips with scissors!). The Pillow Project was founded by teenager Ella Gibbs who believes that children need and want a pillow to hug and comfort them. All of the materials needed to make a pillow are supplied by Ella at no cost. Participating children choose their own fleece fabrics, make and keep their own pillow.
Date/Time: Saturday, November 23/11am-1pm
Registration/Audience: This event is free and open to children of all ages (though younger ones will need help from their caregiver to create their pillow). Registration is preferred. To register email programs@hudsonarealibrary.org, call 518-828-1792 x101, or visit the main desk in the library.
Four years ago Ella crowdfunded The Pillow Project, raised about $5000 and has subsequently taken The Pillow Project to thirteen states. The Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhood of Hudson, NY was one of The Pillow Project’s first partners. Among other local organizations Ella has partnered with over the years are the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, Stride (Chatham,) YMCA (Greenbush, Guilderland, Canaan, CT,) Hope 7 Center (Troy) and St. Peter’s Waveriders.
