On Thursday, January 28, 2021, Dr. David Voorhees of the Jacob Leisler Institute for the Study of Early New York History presented a talk on Jacob Leisler’s capture and enslavement by pirates in 1677. The lecture focused on Leisler and his family members’ dramatic captivity, the efforts to obtain the prisoners’ release, and their enslavement’s subsequent impact on New York Politics.

This talk was presented by the Hudson Area Library History Room in conjunction with the Jacob Leisler Institute, and was made possible through the generous support of the Van Dyke Family Foundation.

The talk is viewable in full on the library’s YouTube channel, or here on our library website.
