Our Ghostly Gallop 5K road race, an annual highlight of the Hudson Valley and Capital Region fall running season, has been added to the USATF Adirondack Grand Prix Series, which challenges runners to compete over various distances and in differing conditions culminating with the Ghostly Gallop.
The 18th annual Ghostly Gallop, as well as a free one-mile run for youth 11 and under, will be held Sunday, October 21, beginning and ending at Hudson High School.
Registration for the race is now open and proceeds benefit the library. For more information and to register, visit the Ghostly Gallop website.
Hey you runners and walkers… There is only one month left to register for the 2017 Ghostly Gallop. Support the Hudson Area Library by coming out for the Run/Walk and 1-mile Kid’s Fun Run on October 22.
There will be cash prizes for the top three finishers in both the Men’s and Women’s categories as well as a Costume Competition.
Congratulations to all the runners, walkers, and cyclists who participated in the annual Ghostly Gallop! More than 200 people participated with bikers beginning their day on Saturday in cold temperatures, but our beautiful Hudson Valley, at peak color, took their minds off cold fingertips. By the time the riders arrived at the half-way point, Riverview Café in Stuyvesant, the sun had warmed things up considerably.
Sunday’s later start date for the Kid’s 1-Mile Fun Run and 5K Walk/Run brought the mercury up to a perfect temperature for participants and viewers. The winners, Arianna Nilsson (22:25) and Daniel Ronsani (18:08) duplicated their finishing positions of 2015. They are now local legends, and the ones to beat next year.
We thank all who came out to support the Library! For a complete rundown of finishing times, go to www.facebook.com/GG5K2016.

The 2012 Ghostly Gallop, an annual race in honor of William F. Cranna, went off without a hitch yesterday, Sunday October 28th. Unlike the 2011 race which featured a snowstorm the night before that made for some icy conditions, this year’s race took place under cloudy skies with temperatures in the low 60s. A perfect day for a run or walk through the streets of Hudson.
This year’s race was especially meaningful to the library community as the event honored the late William F. Cranna. Bill Cranna, a former Board member and Friend of the Library, was instrumental in founding the Ghostly Gallop as a library FUNdraiser back in 2001. He was an avid runner, he loved to read, and the library was his passion. In honor of Cranna, the library has begun a new tradition – The William F. Cranna Memorial Cup, which will, from this day forward, be engraved with the names of the Ghostly Gallop winners each year and kept on display at the library.
The Ghostly Gallop Committee thanks the many people who worked to make this event a special day for the William F. Cranna Family. The Hudson Area Library greatly appreciates the response to this years race.
Special thank you to our volunteers and sponsors without whom this event would not be possible.
