From October 12 – 26, The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett by Chelsea Sedoti will be available as a free digital download for every patron that wishes to read it—no holds, no wait lists.
The Big Library Read (facilitated by OverDrive) is a reading program through the library that connects millions of readers around the world with the same eBook at the same time without any wait lists or holds. By participating in the Big Library Read, we are joining a global movement of passionate readers and library patrons who support the availability of digital materials at libraries.
This time around, the title will be available in both E-Book and E-Audiobook formats – both will be available for instant unlimited access on the MHLS Digital Download page at http://mhls.lib.overdrive.com/ and there will be a promotional spotlight at the top of that page.
We have increased the number of OverDrive holds that patrons can place, and the number of OverDrive items that can be checked out. All Overdrive users can now have up to 10 items on hold at any given time and up to 10 items checked out.
Our eBooks can be read on your computer, phone, tablet or eReader. Many titles can be enjoyed immediately on any device with an internet browser or downloaded into the free OverDrive app. All titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees!
Need help figuring out your new Kindle, Nook, or other electronic reader? Want to learn how to borrow eBooks for your device from the library? Join us on Saturday, June 29 anytime between 11am-1pm and we’ll help you learn how! Bring your personal device or learn on one of ours. You can explore the Mid-Hudson Library System’s collection of downloadable eBooks and audiobooks on the MHLS Digital Download page.
Would you like to take books out from the library without ever leaving your home? All you need is an e-reader or MP3 player, internet service, and a library card! Check out Mid Hudson Library System Digital Downloads, powered by Overdrive, to browse thousands of your favorite young adult audiobooks and e-books. Just click the “View All Subjects” button under either eBooks or Audiobooks on the left hand side menu of the home page. Scroll down to the bottom of the list and you will find “Young Adult Fiction”. Click the link and start browsing! There you’ll find popular YA books including Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, and The Angel Experiment by James Patterson!
Not sure where to start? Underneath “Search Results” at the top of the page, you can order your search by release date (if you want new releases), most popular (if you want to see what everyone else is reading), title (if you want the titles listed in alphabetical order), and creator (if you want to see the titles listed by author’s last name).
Having trouble finding an item that is currently available? Check the box “Only show titles with copies available” and the site will show you titles that are checked in and available for you to read right away!
Having trouble downloading e-books or audiobooks to your device or just getting started? Click “Getting Started?” on the top right of the navigation bar, for help getting started with your particular device and troubleshooting tips.
The Friends of the Hudson Area Library have generously donated thirteen newly-released and soon-to-be released books on CD to the Hudson Area Library’s collection. The new acquisitions include a combination of fiction and non-fiction works, and several different genres.
On the Mid-Hudson Library System’s OverDrive Digital Downloads page you will now see a new link on the left-hand navigation bar, titled “Accessible eBooks”, giving patrons with print disabilities access to eBooks. The Library eBook Accessibility Program (LEAP) is a partnership between OverDrive and Bookshare.org. OverDrive’s role in the program is to fully fund one year of membership for our qualifying patrons. The link directs patrons to apply for a Bookshare membership from the OverDrive-powered site. The accessible books will be provided by Bookshare to patrons enrolled in LEAP, and include books in DAISY and Braille formats that can be read with computers, assistive reading devices, Braille printers, and MP3 players.
Teens and other readers of Young Adult Literature will have the opportunity to listen to bestselling titles and required reading classics this summer. Each week from June 14 – August 22, 2012, SYNC will offer two free audiobook downloads.
The audiobook pairings will include a popular YA title and a classic that connects with the YA title’s theme and is likely to show up on a student’s summer reading lists. For example, Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone, the first book in a new series about a girl who opens a door to two otherworldly cities at war, will be paired with Charles Dicken’s A Tale of Two Cities.
To find out more about this summer’s audiobooks, visit www.AudiobookSync.com or text syncya to 25827 (texting will sign you up for notifications, letting you know when the next audiobook pairing is available for download). Audiobooks will be downloaded using Overdrive Media Console, the same system that many of our patrons use to download audiobooks through the Mid-Hudson Library System.
