The History Room Committee of the Hudson Area Library is pleased to welcome Arthur Smith to the library on Saturday, February 7th at 3:00pm as a guest speaker in the Hudson Area Library’s Local History Speaker Series. Smith will offer a presentation discussing the History of the Hudson Masonic Lodge. There will also be a question and answer period afterward, followed by light refreshments.

Local History Speaker Series presents Ted Filli

The History Room Committee of the Hudson Area Library is pleased to welcome Ted Filli to the library on Saturday, January 10th at 3:30pm as our first guest speaker of 2015 in the Hudson Area Library’s Local History Speaker Series. Filli will offer a presentation focusing on prehistoric artifacts of the Hudson Valley Native Americans, with a hands-on sampling of actual items from his personal collection. There will also be a question and answer period afterward, followed by light refreshments.

Snow date for Ted Filli presentation: January 17, 3:30pm. Note: Lisa LaMonica was originally scheduled to speak at our Local History Speaker Series on January 17, but had to cancel. We will let you know when the event with LaMonica is rescheduled.

Local History Speaker Series: Jon Meredith

The History Room Committee of the Hudson Area Library is pleased to welcome Jon Meredith as September’s local history speaker. Meredith, a collector and dealer of local historical ephemera, will offer a presentation focused on historical postcards, primarily from Hudson and surrounding areas, and will include actual postcards for folks to view from his personal collection.

The presentation will be held on Saturday, September 27 at 3:30 on the first floor of the Hudson Area Library, with wheelchair access on the northeast side of the building. Admission is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Light refreshments will be served.

The History Room Committee’s Local History Speaker Series offers bimonthly talks on diverse topics related to the history of Hudson, Greenport, Stockport, and Columbia County. The Hudson Area Library’s History Room houses a special collection that pertains to the history of the City of Hudson, as well as Columbia County and New York State. The History room is open Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm, Saturdays from 10am-12pm, and by appointment.

Local History Speaker Series Kicks Off With World History Perspective

Thank you to Dr. Thomas Mounkhall and the many community members who joined us on Sunday, March 30 for the inaugural presentation of the Hudson Area Library History Room Committee’s Local History Speaker Series. Mounkhall shared a thought-provoking presentation linking important regional historical events with significant developments in World History.

The History Room Committee’s Local History Speaker Series will offer bimonthly talks on diverse topics related to the history of Hudson, Greenport, Stockport, and Columbia County. The next event is scheduled for May 17 at 4pm and will feature a talk by Mary Beth Wenger, author of Finding Grandma: A Sentimental Journey Through 1920s Columbia County Recipes.
