Caps For Sale Puppet Show

Caps for Sale postcardWe’re pleased to welcome PuppeTree back to the Hudson Area Library for a puppet show based on the classic children’s book Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina.*

On Tuesday, July 19 at 6pm, the Vermont-based theater workshop and puppet company will perform an updated puppet production of Caps for Sale. The performance will celebrate diversity by retelling the classic tale several times with puppets from a variety of world cultures – Africa, India, Estonia, and the Middle East. Children and families are sure to have a raucous good time with Caps for Sale’s tale of mischief.

Children of all ages and their families are invited. The program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For questions or further information please call Brenda Shufelt, Program Director at 518-828-1792 x101.

*Some of you will remember PuppeTree from last summer’s fabulous Swimmy/Swimmer puppet show, based on the Leo Lionni classic picture book, Swimmy. We couldn’t wait to get them back to Hudson!

PuppeTree Presents: Swimmy/Swimmer

On Wednesday, July 8 at 11am, join us in welcoming Vermont’s PuppeTree to the library with a stunning new production of Leo Lionni’s classic children’s book Swimmy. This fully authorized multimedia production blends shadow puppets, animation and projections performed by the PuppeTree’s founder Ann Legunn. A visual and musical treat Swimmy features a classical music score that draws us into the undersea world and introduces children to lyrical work of Debussy.

The companion piece, Swimmer, is an original work inspired by Lionni’s wonderful story, set on a picturesque New England river. A young girl recognizes the threats to her beloved river and learns to organize the people that live along it’s banks to change their behavior and preserve the magic of the river. Swimmer boasts an original music score by Patrick Ross a fifth generation Vermont fiddler and composer. Visual artists, musicians, puppeteers and craftsman have worked over 3 years to bring this beautiful and inspiring show to life.

Swimmy/Swimmer is ideal for 3 – 12 year olds and their families. Priority seating for Summer Reading Program attendees.
