Join us for the opening reception of an exhibition of original woodcuts and prints by Jamaican-born, Catskill-based artist, dancer, and healer, Taganyahu Swaby.

Taganyahu Swaby: “My father was an artist, who beyond his own work, made advertisements and album covers for Reggae artists. I began drawing as a young child, painting as a teenager and making woodcuts in college. Woodcut has long served as a medium of community expression and resistance in the African diaspora. Throughout my time working in this medium, my goal has been to extend that tradition into the present moment: The same ancient technique, now being expressed through a contemporary immigrant outlook. We are now encountering an unprecedented flood of digital images that flows through our lives daily. Using this medium is asking what it means to slow down, to digest and process the world in a primordial way.”
